All the charts and pilot books you will need for the sailing area are issued at your chart briefing.

You must be moored at least one hour before sunset. Night Sailing is not allowed without permission from the base manager. The decision to allow night sailing is based on your skill level and can be requested in advance. You will need to fill out the Sailing or Power resume for the base to review but we cannot guarantee approval.

Cruising Permits & Taxes
When cruising the waters of BVI, clients will be required to buy a Parks permit to pick up the day mooring balls, which is included in your charter cost. Overnight mooring ball fees are not prepaid. Overnight fees will be collected when you secure your boat to any overnight mooring ball.

A National Park Fee is charged in advance for yacht charter guests and is part of your total cost for your boat. Things to Do

Allamanda Gallery
The Allamanda Gallery showcases the photographic artwork of Amanda Baker, who has been capturing the British Virgin Islands (in all its hues) since her arrival as delivery crew on a Moorings 432 in 1988. After ten years of owner, operating a private charter boat based in Tortola, she launched Virgin Portraits Photography and opened the first “Allamanda Gallery” in 2007 in Road Town. In July 2021, she opened Allamanda Gallery #5 located opposite Charlie’s at The Moorings base, offering an array of prints, books & souvenirs, as well as customizable metal prints, canvases and beautiful scenic photographs all available to ship worldwide. Unique teak framing and creative displays are her forte’.

Take a tour of the island
Explore the cruising ground from high up in the mountains. Hire a taxi and go for a drive through many of the steep hills.

Explore North Shore
Take a taxi out to the north shore and explore an array of beautifully secluded beaches like Smuggler’s Cove and Long Bay Beach.

Gear up, lock in and whiz through the hills overlooking Tortola on a fun-filled zip line tour. It’s a thrilling experience that’s perfect for the entire family. Front desk reception can arrange zip line excursions for customers as needed.

The Moorings provides snorkelling gear (flippers, masks & snorkels) for all charters for your pleasure. Children's sizes are very limited; you may wish to pack your own snorkelling gear.

Fishing equipment is included in all Moorings Crewed Yacht Charters and can be added to Moorings Power or Sail Catamaran Charters for an additional fee. Due to recent regulations set by the British Virgin Islands Conservation and Fisheries Department, fishing equipment cannot be added to any Monohull Charter in the BVI.

Vessel registration is required for any boat wanting to fish in the BVI. We offer this on all of our sail and power catamaran fleet in the BVI. The cost is $50 USD per boat. Please contact a Moorings Holiday Planner to register your yacht.

In addition to the $50 USD vessel registration, a personal fishing license is required for any adult fishing in the BVI’s. The Moorings diving and fishing equipment partner, Sail Caribbean Divers, has provided this Fishing License Application for your convenience. The cost is $65 USD per person and permits are valid for 1 month. Please email your application to  [email protected]  at least 2 weeks in advance of the charter to allow for government turnaround time.

You will be able to pick up your fishing permit and sign-out your equipment at Sail Caribbean Divers, in the pink hut, when you arrive at the base.

Please note that you may not fish in the National Parks and unless fishing well offshore, fish should not be eaten due to Ciguatera poisoning. No spearfishing allowed.
